Years ago, back when the internet was just starting to take over, and Si was in Theory of Everything (Brum based alt-rock band), print media was king as far as music was concerned. NME, Melody Maker and Sounds ruled the weeklies, and Q, Mojo and Uncut duked it out for monthly supremacy. We would have killed to get a review in any of them, and listening back to the album we released back then, we should have (imho).
Anyway, forward a couple of decades and having already got a 7/10 review in Uncut Captain Wilberforce just received a 4/5 star review in Mojo, (probably the most respected and venerated rock magazine since Q magazine ended), for “Another World. Another Life. Another Time.”. Reviewer, John Aizlewood, highlighted its “Pert, sunny hook laden power-pop” and notes favourable comparisons to Squeeze, The Byrds and Semisonic.
We don’t write, record and play our songs live for the reviews – but it’s nice when someone gets what you do and spreads the word. That’s a hint to y’all, btw 😉
