Little victories

It’s all about the little victories. I accept that it’s unlikely that I’ll ever play Shea Stadium to a crowd so wildly excited that I can’t hear myself sing (is Shea stadium still there any more – probably should google that) but that doesn’t mean that I can’t indulge in some dreaming, musically speaking. When Huey from ‘Fun Lovin Criminals’ …

Official album launch date and gigs

Ghost Written Confessions will be officially released on August 15th and to support it, we’ll be playing some gigs. August Fri 19th – The Sunflower Lounge, Birmingham Sat 27th – The Spice of Life, Soho, London September Thurs 1st – The Well, Leeds: £4. More details to follow, but hope some of you can make it along!

Liverpool

Getting on stage at the Cavern, I realised that it was my first gig for nearly two years. It showed. The gig was pretty ropey – we got through it and had some nice comments from the audience at the end, but it was a bit of a disappointment. So I was a bit apprehensive about the second gig at …

Facebook etc.

Because the whole band thing on Facebook seems inordinately complicated to run, my Captain Wilberforce band page has been left in a pretty neglected state until now, so I don’t blame people for ignoring it (if they could even find it!). Anyway I’m going to try and keep it updated from now on as it’s dumb not to! It’s here …

New album out on Monday (unofficially!)

Ghost Written Confessions, the third Captain Wilberforce album will be available on CD from Monday at Blue Tuxedo Records. Yay. The official launch has been put back to August as I only got the CDs back from the manufacturer yesterday, and as previously explained, you have to send albums to reviewers at least a couple of months before a release …

IPO Festival date

If you’re one of the small but loyal band of Captain Wilberforce supporters that has been subsidising my delusions of pop grandeur since 2004, you’ll know that every year I take up the invitation to play the IPO festival in Liverpool (ok, not last year, pedants!). Sometimes with band, sometimes just me and my acoustic. Well this year, on Wednesday …

It’s here!

Finally I have in my hands a mastered version of the new album and it sounds great! David has put in so many hours on this project (he probably wishes he’d never taken it on!) that he deserves a public announcement – *ahem* Thank you Mr Lawrie!! Also, the artwork is coming together nicely and Owen and I have chosen …

Photos

With the album forefront in my mind at the moment, I’ve been trying to organise all the non-music stuff in time for the CD to be manufactured (hopefully in about 3-4 weeks). For those of you who’ve never tried, let me tell you it’s a complicated process. Obviously I want the album to get bunches of sparkling reviews from across …

A new years’ offer

In order to clear some space and to get us off to a fabulicious start to 2011, I’m reducing the price of my back catalogue. Yay, I hear you cry. You can now buy Everyone Loves a Villain, Mindfilming and Dreams of Educated Fleas here via Paypal (or credit / debit card). You can also pre-order the new CD “Ghost …

Happy new year!

Fingers crossed for a splendid one. PS. Wasn’t Plan B fantastic on Jools Holland’s show yesterday?

Album progress

David is now half way through mixing the 10 songs on Ghost Written Confessions.  Yes, I know that I originally wanted a 12 song LP, but I also want the songs to sit right and sound like they belong together and unfortunately a couple of songs didn’t fit the criteria.  I’ll probably give at least one of those songs away …
